When someone thinks about exercise the first thing that comes to mind generally isn't the cognitive benefits associated with lifting weights, playing sports, yoga or simply going for a walk. However there are numerous positive gains to come from sweating it out regularly.
Short term benefits:
Improved focus and attention
Better mood and reduced stress
Enhanced learning ability
Long term benefits:
Stronger memory
Neuroplasticity
Slower cognitive decline
Better stress resilience
Enhanced creativity and problem solving
For me personally having a consistent workout routine is key for my mental health. It's a healthy outlet and one that I can see instant benefits from. I regularly play squash, tennis, ball hockey, swim, run and lift weights. It helps me deal with depression and anxiety and live the life I want to in the present and future.
